Keeping Your Home’s Air Conditioner Working During the Winter Time

a woman sitting on a couch during the winter timeAs a desert city, El Paso’s weather is incredibly changeable. This is most apparent during the fall and winter months when one morning may be chilly but by the evening, you’re peeling off your layers in order to save yourself from melting. Due to the constant changes in temperature, it may be necessary for homeowners to keep their air conditioner units running in case we face a hot front as the year winds down. If you’re in the El Paso area and you require air conditioning service, Scott Heating & Cooling can help!

Facing Varying Temperatures in the Sun City

It seems as if the cold months arrive late every year. Instead of subjecting your home to the heat, you can make sure your A/C unit is up and running. Even though El Paso’s temperature doesn’t tend to remain cold for too long, homes often require heating in order to have a comfortable wintertime. But that dreaded day will come when you can’t sleep under the weighter covers and you’ll have to put away your flannel pajamas because it will simply be too hot for comfort. As odd as it may seem, air conditioning is still necessary during El Paso winters.

Don’t Overwork Your Air Conditioning Unit, Especially in the Winter Time

Although most air conditioning units are advanced and can easily switch from hot to cool, it’s still necessary for homeowners to take appropriate precautions prior to switching. Here’s what you should keep in mind: whether you’re switching from cold to hot or vice versa, it’s still necessary to let your A/C unit reach the end of its cycle. Once complete, wait about five minutes prior to switching the temperature. This is done in order to allow the refrigerant to return to its initial pressure. Switching before the refrigerant is ready can cause the compressor to lock up. Switch to a temperature that doesn’t vary too much from the previous one. Don’t go from 80 degrees to 68 degrees as it will overwork your air conditioner which may lead to damage and necessitate repairs.

Thank you for the excellent job your men did. The man who gave us a bid, Sam Wolf, is top of the line and incredibly capable. Your installers who were here all day long were polite, helpful, and hard working. So were the men who did the insulation and the electrical work.
