The New Year’s Resolutions of HVAC Maintenance and Repairs

Professional HVAC technician speaking with young woman about the conditions of her indoor air conditioning system for her home.

January is the month of resolutions. It’s the time of year that ideas of renewal and goals and objectives are part of everyday conversation. Maybe you have a set of resolutions yourself. The common ones like: go to the gym, eat better, drink less, etc. Resolutions, however, can extend beyond yourself and be part of improving your lives in a variety of ways. As people say, little steps eventually make a leap. So what are some things you can put in your to-do list when it comes to your immediate surroundings? Most people are not aware of how much a little maintenance and quick repair could save them in the long run.

So here is our list of New Years HVAC Maintenance and Repairs List

Resolution #1: Schedule your annual.

Just like you schedule your appointment with your primary doctor, or schedule the oil change of your car, your HVAC system also needs the same sort of attention. Choose a month every year and make sure you get yourself to schedule the appointment with us then. This way, you don’t have to worry about it. Annual maintenance and check-ups can prevent a good percentage of common repair costs.

Resolution #2 Fine Tune Your Ears and Eyes.

Ok, we know this sounds funny, but it’s not uncommon for people to call their AC repairman who explains the problem  and is then told, “So that’s what that funny noise was.” In other words, a faulty HVAC system—whether it is your heater or your air conditioner— will usually give some indication that it is not functioning 100% through the noise, rattles, or strange smells. It will also give you distress signals through spotty heating or cooling, inconsistent function, low airflow, and more. And here’s the kicker: if you notice something not all right, call an HVAC technician right away instead of waiting a year.

Resolution #3 Consider Your Filters.

What’s between you and the rest of the world. What’s the quality of the air you breathe? This might be remedied by your annual maintenance check-up, but it’s not a bad idea to keep an eye on your filters yourself. You never know when dust, dirt, or other debris has snuck in and is causing clogs bad quality air. The air you breathe is important, after all. The cleaner it is, the better you feel. Filtration can be an effective way to combat bad pollutants from the air. According to the EPA, in fact, cleaning up your filtration system, even upgrading/replacing your filter in your furnace, central heating, or air conditioning, will help improve indoor air quality.

Resolution #4: It’s OK to Vent.

Every once in awhile, everyone needs a little venting. Let it all out. Spill the beans. What we mean is to consider cleaning your vents. Cleaning your vents will simply improve the flow of everything and remove dust and dirt from building up and obstructing.  While doing this, you want to check the airflow. If you feel weak airflow, contact your HVAC specialist immediately and we can come down and diagnose the problem.

Resolution #5: Get the Ductwork Inspected.

No one likes to deal with costly repairs. Check your ductwork and get it inspected. This might often be the root of some HVAC problems that sneak up on you. Keeping up with your ductwork will ensure that there are no catastrophic changes. This also helps you in the event that you decide to sell your home in the future. All of this is valuable maintenance that maintains the value of your home and the high function of your HVAC system. At the same time, it keeps you breathing healthy.

Resolution #6: Out with the Old and In With the New

Many people might tire of hearing phrases like this during the new year. Many times, however, these cliched phrases hold important truths or valuable lessons. In this case, you want to let go of that old love that broke your heart last year, but you also want to let go of that old air conditioner system that is causing you breathing problems. Many times, people will hold off in replacing their systems for fear of spending a lot of money or reluctance to believe that their wonderful AC has run its course and given it its best. You are worth something. You deserve to be loved. Don’t let your HVAC system push you around. Sometimes you have to rip out the bandage and forget the old systems that are causing you grief and investing in a new system full of possibilities and clean air.

You are what you breathe. Don’t let that be full of dust and mulch. Get your systems cleaned today.
